Looking for help finding a better drive system. Needs to be worm drive and will be hand cranked.
I have built a small ferris wheel type project. It has 3 attachment points equally spaced and 24" from the axle. Load will only be at two points at any given time. Max weight will be 110 pounds at two points for a total of 220 pounds, or 140 pounds at a single point.
Currently I am using a modified 1 ton harbor freight worm drive hand crank winch attached to a 1" axle as my drive system. It works, but not well. Binds a bit at max load and there is too much play which causes the wheel to bounce.
I'd like something in the 20:1 or 30:1 range, but can look at other ratios. Basically I don't know how to calculate the force/ torque that I am generating to be able to source a suitable drive system. Nor do I know a whole lot about worm drive reduction gear boxes.
I just know how to weld up a mini ferris wheel, haha.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
