No Pierce Signal From AVHC

Hi guys,

I have had this problem off and on cutting different material. It will pierce but will not begin the move then it
stops and this message comes on the screen. I have tried different settings on the AVHC but still having trouble.

Does anyone know why it does this and how to fix it?

This is your Ok to Move signal, when piercing thin material such as 20 gauge it is best to disable this in the Height Control box, if cutting thicker material ensure your ground cable is connected to the material.

The "ok to move signal" is on. I am trying to cut 1/4" steel. I've tried changing the delay up and down but have the same result. it does blow a hole thru it but will not move. I do have the ground connected to the material.

Verify you are receiving an Ok to Move signal with a multimeter, remove the ok to move wires and check continuity when the plasma fires and pierces the metal. If you receive Ok to Move signal then check, the next connection which is the Pierce wires, ensure the two wires are tight, then go to the input connector on the back of the signal generator, remove and reconnect to ensure a good connection. And again no plasma ground no Ok to Move signal generated.

I checked the connections for the "ok to move" and they seemed fine.

I cut .06" just fine but when I try the same program on the .250 it alarms. I have the ground connected to the material.
then I went back to the .06 later and had the same problem.

What happens when you turn the cut light off and do a dry run, does it run the program, if so then this means that the Pierce Complete and Pierce wires are in tact as well as the input cable is working. If this is successful then jump across your Ok to Move wires on the back of the AVHC box, when the plasma strikes an arc, jump the contacts and see if it runs the program, and the end of each cut disconnect the jumper wire. If this works then it comes down to the plasma cutter.

the plasma is a Tomahawk 1000.

I guess it had something to do with the consumables. I took it apart and put it back together and it started working.
I noticed it gives the same alarm if I try to start at the same pierce point. so if there is already a pierced hole it will give the same alarm.

Good you figured it out. Plasma cutters need to pierce over fresh material, if you get that message for some reason or other, try it again and place some metal strapping if you have some lying around over the pierced hole or some other scrap material and then remove it once the motion starts.

Thanks, but what I don't understand is when I get that message when I pierce over fresh material. any ideas as to why?

Try dropping your pierce height, when the plasma cutter transfers the arc to the material, the positive signal transfers to the material and flows back through the ground cable to the plasma cutter. When the plasma cutters senses this it closes the contacts for Ok to Move. If the pierce hole is to big then it wont be able to transfer the positive, reason that 20 gauge material does not work to well with Ok to Move enabled. Dropping the pierce height may help, even on thicker material, could also be that your amps are to high and you are piercing to big of a hole.
