Considering a new laptop without an RJ-45 connector

My 2x4 plasma table works fine. Using VMD 4.0.42 with an Accumove2.

My computer is an aging laptop. I want to replace it with a current laptop.

One problem is a lot of the newer laptops don't have the RJ-45 connector for the Accumove. Various adapters claim the ability to convert any USB port to the required RJ-45 connector.

I have extensive experience with such adapters for RS-232, RS-485, MILSTD-1553 and other comms schemes but not to an RJ-45 Ethernet connection.

In my experience, the target device (the Accumove in this case) can have serious issues with configurations or will just nor work at all. I have had to buy a different computer in some cases just to continue comms with a particular machine with a particular Comms scheme.

Question: Has anybody tried an adapter for this purpose?
Can you recommend a particular brand?

I have no direct experience, but I have never been a fan of USB adaptors when emulating any other connection. It never seems to work well to begin with and then quickly becomes no longer supported. Though, where in the world are you buying a laptop from that it does not come with a LAN connection? I just checked www.newegg.com and found plenty. I would avoid any touch screen/folding/ultra thin or light type models. Look for a more "traditional" (and hopefully less expensive) type model.

That is what I am doing. I was considering an "ultra light, thin laptop" but have settled on a more traditional one with a built in RJ-45.
