Has anybody here tried the Lincoln square wave 200 tig machine? I would like to try and learn tig welding but I can't justify several thousand dollars for a machine that will be for hobby welding. I would hope this Lincoln machine would be a good alternative to the Chinese combo welders. Mike
I have a 175, several years old, bought new. Never an issue. Main purpose was stainless and aluminum though it did well with a rod also. The Mrs. cut her teeth welding 20ga ss with it. To me the Square Wave is a fine machine perfectly suited to learning TIG with plenty of functionality as you grow.
I love my 175.. very forgiving... easy to weld with.. remember its a air cooled machine so welding at higher amperage gets a hot torch and shorter duty cycle.. but all in all for a light duty shop machine its fine. It has had zero issues in five years of use
I have a precision tig 185. With square wave and pulse not sure how it compares though. Have done some pretty heavy stuff 1/2". Alum. It didn't like it but it did it. WELDRED!!
My favorite TIG welder ever was my Squarewave 175. I have not used the 200 yet, but cannot wait until I do.
I've run the square wave TIG 200. It's a great little machine. AC for aluminum runs really well, and for the price. I think the rebel is $1,600, miller has something, but I really only weld red. I plan on getting one around Christmas or in the spring.
Well this is on my tool bucket list. I like that it will weld aluminum. I just want to learn tig. This is not a career investment since I am retired but something else to try my hand at. Just like my 2x4 CNC Plasma table. Mike
A friend of mine just got one. It's a nice little machine for the money. Had no problems welding with it. Also consider what thickness and how big of an area you may be welding. (I'm a miller fan)
FYI, Lincoln is running a 10% rebate on the Square Wave TIG 200 as part of their holiday promo. Price after rebate is under $1300. Details are on the Lincoln website.
As a Christmas present to myself I ordered one of these. Should be here in about a week. The 10% off is a nice discount!
Purchased sq wave 200 tig machine a few weeks ago, and I like it. Been away front tig for over 40 yrs, but find this machine great for refreshing ones aging memory. Have played with settings etc on 6061 alum, and looking forward to stainless. Purchased online through TSC stores at a reduced price. I'm having fun.
Had one and hated it. But for a new guy who doesn't know the difference between a good one and bad one it will be fine.
