file where lines are not connected

how to I join all the segmented lines together in a file

how did you do that ??

 

reason I'm asking is I have a few that are doing that am I loading the file wrong ??

 

I first changed every thing to the same layer, then double click to node edit the use node tools to connect the broken lines
