What does error message 85 on Thermal Dynamics cutmaster 80A mean?? Really getting fed up with the unreliability of my system..
TM 3 Gantry kit 4x8
Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 80A
AVHC
New consumables
just trying to run speed test, 5 lines with start stop
then cut out perimiter
Start, first line cuts fine
Position to next line start.
Machine interface solenoid clicks in
Senses material, returns to pierce height, stops (M100/...)
Indicates 85 error on cutmaster, means shorted torch
Switch cutmaster off, on
Start again, cuts next line
Positions to line 3
Senses again and goes pierce height
Starts, blows a hole but doesn't move
Holds the arc, blows bigger hole, I have to switch AVHC off to stop..
Cycle plasma, place small material under hole. Unscrew torch cup, retighten, Start again
Sense, Pierce height,,
Stops again(m100/101 dahdahdah)
Earth is clamped to material..
I've had this table setup for years with varying periods of usage and idle, this is the first time I'm feeling like maybe bagging it.. I'm in Kenya East Africa and at one point thought about being a rep for TM but..
TM support know me well over the years and have been really helpful at times.. Anybody want to make a nice safari and come help??!!

The FAULT and 85 means a few things and not just shorted torch. Usually it is the starter cartridge sticking or just the wrong consumables. If you have a service center available or a hand torch to test might be the next step. This is more of a TD A80 issues wince all of the errors indicate the torch body of the plasma.

Ok.. Greetings Chad. Hey, I did just recently receive new consumables bought on Amazon and some did come from China.. I guess the most problematic issue is the intermittent nature of these failures.. I just started this same speed test and again,, ran through first two lines just fine then quit!! again.. Where can I find the more detailed fault info like you attached?? If the plasma unit is perhaps the source of my misery, what system would you recommend?

My system came with dongle 144427H. Can you see the details of this system in your database?? Please advise, I know the Hypertherm system was available when I bought.. Do you think that would have been a more reliable choice??

TD now owned by Victor?? and they in turn owned by ESAB?? Anyway,, ESAB is big here in Kenya so maybe I should go check out a new torch from them.. Or?? I guess you read a level of frustration on my part.. I'll ...

Thanks, Alan

Alan,

Provided is the operators manual for the A80.

This is a A80 issue that you are having. Getting authentic consumables is the first thing because the cheaper knock offs could cause issues. Then I would check to verify the O RING on the torch body is there and also verify that it isn't damaged. Like I said prior this error is "usually" a stuck start cartridge. Go through some of the steps in the manual but if you still get the issue I would recommend getting a hold of Thermal Dynamics/Victor/ESAB.
