machine shipped yesterday, yea. so I have been playing around with the edu software. making some progress [a little] .. I have a simple part drawn up and want to add a cutout /slot to the bottom . but when i choose the square tool and drag it over to make a rectangle the size I want, it wont stay on the screen I right click and the edit guides come up, delete those and my rectangle disappears , left click does nothing. I am missing a step here

Hmm you click the square tool and draw a square anywhere on screen by clicking and dragging the mouse to size. Then click the square and move to your position you want.

There are a wealth of videos made by John Harmon on YouTube starting the the very basics to advanced. You need in my opinion to watch these several times over. It is great if you have 2 screens as you emulate what John does in his screen on yours and within a few hours you wil have the steep learning curve we all went through under control.
Master the basics first and life gets so much easier !!!!!!!!!!
I still go back and watch the occasional one when I forget a step along the way. A part like you are trying to draw will take 2 minutes max

Yes thank you. I am not at my computer at this moment. On call this month been a busy day. I was in zoom mode working on my part , might that be the issue why it does not want to cooperate ? Will try again when I get home in standard screen Thanks again

First need to ensure that Show Tool Paths is selected under the View Menu, when you click on the Rectangle Tool, your mouse icon will then be associated with a square, click and drag on the screen, the fields above allow you to define the size of your rectangle. Alternatively you can click off to the side of your rectangle, getting out of Rectangle Properties mode, and you can also define the size using the fields above, being sure to unclick the Padlock which is Proportional Scaling.

yes thanks getting it slowly, I think my issue is the steps in which one must make to move forward. arrange, select, make path, text to graphic, machine, create tool path, show fill, got a little frustrated, tried importing some clipart for a break , all silhouettes site, cannot seem to pull just one object from the whole bunch that were downloaded.. back to cad practice...

Yes it seems like there are a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of it you will breeze right through it, take advantage of the Torchmate University videos.
