So am I CAD cam has been working great up until when my computer updated to Windows 10. So I did a system restore and then everything really went downhill. I switched to my other computer and downloaded the cad cam and vmd software. I keep getting a security error and I went through check my computer and it recognizes my dongle and says is working properly. But when I open CAD cam and use it it goes back to saying I have a security error. I've dealt with tech support and they say I probably need a new dongle because my dongle is in Fairly bad shape. My issue is if I buy a new dongle will this fix it and how much longer will this new dongle last. They are built fairly cheap. If I buy a new dongle also will I get an updated version of CAD cam or will it be the same version I have? Does anyone else have torchmate AccuMove 2 and a different design software? I really don't want to spend another $185 on a new dongle if it's not going to solve the issue our last that long. Has anyone used sheet cam? Either way I need to get this issue resolved fairly quick to get moving again! Downtime never pays LOL! Thanks
Some people put a USB jumper on the dongle and put the dongle inside of a small OtterBox or other enclosure with the extension hanging outside the box. This way the extension takes the abuse. Mike
I know that 185 dollars is a stretch for what u get in a dongle but you talk about downtime costing u . My take on that would be even if u switched to another software, some free some not, the learning curve learning the new software could result in even more downtime.
I wouldn't mind spending the money if the dongle shell was made a little better. The older orange ones seemed built better. I do like the CadCam 9 software and yes starting over with a new software would take time to learn. I reinstalled cad cam last night and it seems to be working good so far. Keeping my fingers crossed! lol. With my dongle shell broke off you have to not push it in the usb all the way. Otherwise it won't be detected.
For laptops the blue/white dongles are not that great as tehy get damaged pretty easily. On my desktop, I just put the dongle in the back and forget about it.
I bought a usb hub and leave my dongle in it all the time. That way it’s not in a fixed position incase it gets hit and I never have to remove it. I just remove the hub if I need to unplug it or move to another computer. I also leave a flash drive in the hub so all my important files are always with me, along with the dongle.
