do I need new consumable

I’m running a 40 amp consumable at the recommended settings 3/16” mild steel. Some cuts went through great others seemed to “weld” themselves back together. Ran a line test. Should I maybe run a 60 amp consumable for the thicker steel? I usually don’t cut more than 16 guage so this is my first time doing thicker material.

I would redo the LST. Edit the G-Code so the upper 4 cuts are more towards the bottom and see what you get. It looks to me like you are cutting to fast, and/or not enough voltage. 40amp consumables should work fine with 3/16". What plasma machine are you using?

Just run the LST at 25%... then hopefully that will get closer to the 3/16 @40 speeds better as you will be in the 170 - 80 ipm @ 25% = 42.5 - 20 IPM range.
