Design | Cut | Build™ is back! In this first episode of the new season, we wanted to make a new sign for the newly-constructed Torchmate Garage! Iggy started the project by creating a line drawing of the design. The design called for a 3D effect, so standoffs were needed. Parts 1-6 used a simple bolt head as the spacer, 8-16 needed a full-size standoff, and 7 (the Torchmate spark) called for standoffs cut in half (we only had one size in the shop). Our production schedule allowed us to cut the parts for the second episode as well, so we did one big nested job in Torchmate CAD. Cut Parameters: Table: Torchmate® X Plasma Cutter: FlexCut® 125 Material: 11ga Mild Steel Amperage: 65 amps Cutting Speed: 165 ipm From there, the project was pretty self-explanatory... just weld the standoffs to the back of the letter and make sure they still line up with the holes on the back plate! We chose to paint it at the end, but that’s totally up to you! These signs are pretty easy to make, and the end-product looks awesome! We can’t wait to see you all run with the design and make it your own! Tim, the video guy
Very cool project and showing real world errors like I do . Query, what was the sanding disk used on the air grinder on the back plate? Cheers Larry Cameron NZ
Hey Larry, glad you liked the episode! Iggy says that it was just a screw-on scotch bright pad, and that you can get them basically anywhere. Hope that helps!
