I’m having a really hard time getting the cut quality dialed in for 16 gauge mild steel. Most of this is for art (signs etc) I’ve tried +/- 10% of the recommended settings. I just can’t seem to get it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did cut some 1/4” the other day and it was perfect. So I do believe it’s all in the settings and not a machine issue itself.
Drop the amperage if you are cutting at 40 try 30. Run a line speed test in the Window range you think you will get the best quality. Meaning if you think best cut is around 150, then your Window would be from 200 down to 100 and see which line looks the best. The speed you find is for cutting a straight line it may not be best speed for cutting a radius, so create a box with radius corners as well as some inside objects, try different speeds here as well. There is no cut and dry answer, what works for you in your shop may not work for somebody else.
