why does the blue box need a smart motor? Was hoping I can eliminate it for a normal nema23 Does the grey wire out of blue box go to the torchmate box then the plasma cutter trigger get wired to the blue box? Does this wiring look ok or am I missing anything? Anyone have a stock 2x4 profile? When trying to jog this at anything other than slow speeds it just binds up. Got it used and last owner said he had no issues. He was using TM4 but I have 4.5 downloaded Anyone know what size cable track I should use on the 2x4? And does anyone know if the bellows on the new 4x4 would work on a growth series gantry?
The lifter works off of Touch Torque so the Smart Motor is required, it is like a Hybrid between a stepper motor and a servo motor. Technically you could use a stepper motor to drive the lifter station, but you would need software and a drive to control it and Torchmate has no means to offer this, something l ike Mach 3 would be required. See the wiring diagram attached. Using TM4 software you would go to File then New Setup to load the appropriate setup file.
I feel like 15 for torque is too much and any less the torch won't even move down. Maybe I just need to lube it up a bit Can I put on a stepper motor and use an ohmic sensor?
No you cant, not with Torchmate. With the lifter station in pristine condition I have seen TT as low as 12, with the inherent resistance in the slide usually 15 is a good value. When working on thin sheet metal that warps easily you have to weight the material down so that it does not spring back when torch raises to its pierce height. Once it begins cutting then Arc Voltage can take over and compensate for material warpage. For Ohmic you would have to step up to our Accumove controller which uses a nicer lifter station.
