Hey Ben, how are you clearing these pieces? when I do mine the patina washes out. Any thought would be cool, Thanks!

This piece is colored with a torch, so there is no color loss no matter what type clear used. I am familiar with your issue though. Have you tried a semi-gloss lacquer?

That's weird, I like the affect and would use it more often, but my clear washes all the color out.

I am using a two part automotive clear and have tried several can sprays with a result I wasn't happy with.

I am using a rosebud and I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I know this piece was done with Rust-o-leum Crystal Clear Enamel on top of torch. There is always going to be a loss of brightness but I do believe this enamel gave me fewer issues than other coatings. As far as patinas like greens, Japanese brown and such clear coats always appeared to darken the effect. I found it best to apply a light base coat, let it dry well and hit it again.

As far as the rosebud goes I really can't say. Never tried one, now I want to. I use a small torch tip, 0 or 1 depending on material thickness and desired effect. Larger area to me dictates a larger torch tip.

I've been using SteelFX patinas for years and never had issues when applying clear out of can or 2 part auto clears.
