Looks great! is that spray paint? I Have one of these made but never finished it because I feel like it would take me forever to tape and paint it. I don't get how people sell them so cheap too
The popular option is Duplicolor Metal Cast paint. That's what we use. Since our initial posting we've taken orders for 18 over the last two weeks. We sell them for $275 painted or a DIY version for $125 right off the table. Just had a guy inquire about an 8 footer yesterday. That would be awesome!
Thanks. The trick is, after you get it all sanded down, take a 120 flap disc on an angle grinder, stand it on its end and make the horizontal waves with it. Really adds to the look.
Not quite following this! Stand the flag on its end? I can see the importance of keeping the grinder strokes horizontal (matching the flag's natural flow in the wind) if thats what you mean (?) Thanks.
Yes that's what I mean. Stand the flap disc on its end and slightly tilt it as you move left to right to widen and narrow the line (that's after the initial sanding). When sanding it for the first time don't ever make a stroke that's not left or right. Never go up and down. Really makes a difference. No swirl patterns!
So to make sure I have this, the grinder cuts are perpendicular to the flag stripes, but the grinder motion is always with the stripes. At least that's how it looks in the pic. Thanks!!
you taped and painted it ? I have done a few and its a timely task for sure any tricks to paint even thou none of mine have came out that awesome looking great job
I wish i could dial in my machine to cut that well! how thick of material are you using ? cold rolled or oiled ?
