Hi there! We are opening a one-of-a-kind Fab Lab, and are looking for recommendations / advice on the best dust collection systems for the type of work that we will be doing in our shop. BACKGROUND - We have several different zones in our shop, including Robotics, Wood Shop, Metal Shop, CNC Shop, Chemical Storage, Paint Booth, etc. - We will be zoning off our "dusty" work zones from our "non-dusty" zones, such as our office space, material storage, etc. - See photo to get a better overview of our space: https://www.screencast.com/t/Bn0IPbuEL (Yellow = dust zone, Blue = no dust zone.) QUESTIONS - What is the best dust collection system for this kind of fab lab? - What are you using / would you recommend for dust collection? Air purification? Fume extraction? I would really appreciate any insights, recommendations or advice that you could share! Thanks in advance.
I use to have a 4" PVC sewer pipe manifold system my plastic shop then adapted from that to each machine as needed. Keep in mind that wood dust can be explosive and proper grounding is needed to prevent static discharge, Grizzly Industrial probably has the best supply of connections and dust collectors.
I have a downdraft table and I've been told that aluminum dust (especially when mixed with steel) is combustable So best to have a separate system for each material if you can afford it
Do a Y/T search for more ideas, keep in mind the smoother it is the less drag coefficient and better the flows. A cyclonic separator allows the heavier pcs to fall out before hitting the filter bag. Grounding is really important I can't stress that enough.
SegoMan Designs, thanks for the tip. If you know of any great valuable YouTube videos off the top of your head, I would love if you could share them. I will do some researching myself too. Thanks for the great insights.
Thinktankgroup, Not trying to be a smart azz here but click on this link: https://www.youtube.com/ In the top search bar copy and paste the following: dust collection system Hit enter or click on the magnifying glass, allow time for the search and click on some of the vids.. Keep in mind these are people like us (some good - some great) watch at your own pace and utilize the system that best fits your needs..
Yes, I was planning on doing my own YouTube searches. I just didn't know if you knew of a particular video off the top of your head that you found most valuable or helpful. Sorry.
