    Hi Guys,

I have just signed up to this forum. I am based in the UK. This is one of the few steel fabrication forums I found. I am in the process of building a steel framed garage at my house. I am planning a 11m by 8m garage. The heights at the size will be 2.5m and the height at the point of the roof will be 4m. I am thinking of constructing this in 50mm steel box section with 3mm wall. I am wondering if there is a calculator available to ensure that this steel is heavy enough grade to do my application? Or is there a formula which should be used to calculate this.

Any assistance offered will be greatly received

    Cheers Keith

You should take help from your local steel construction contractors. They maybe take some commission. Recently I've build one...

Hi Tasdidalvi, thanks for the reply yes I have found a local company who make these steel garages and they use 50mm box section with 2.5mm wall so I am now fairly confident that the structure I am planning should work fine. The local company adds quite a bit to the raw costs of material suppose it is understandable they are having to pay labour and make a profit.
