DCB Episode 7 - Wall Moon Clock

For me keeping time has been quite a problem and starting to hate constantly looking at my phone to keep track of my schedule. What ever happened to wall clocks? So I started looking around the web to get some ideas and guess what... I'll make my own.



This is the build of materials we used for this project.

Equipment:

• Torchmate 4800 w/ FlexCut 125
• PowerMig 210 MP Multiprocess Welder
• Angle grinder
• Paint

Material used: (total)

• (1) 2' x 2' 11ga HRPO
• (1) 2' x 2' 14ga HRPO

The design came from 3 different designs. I used the VECTORIZATION tool to grab those elements to make my design. So the moon was one, moon sequence one, and finally the main star. I laid them out and created the attachment points along with a little clean up of the stars and moon shapes.



So since this will be two pieces and I knew I didn't want bolts showing I decided to do plug welds instead. I laid the top piece over the back piece to establish the holes for layout and plug welds. This also gave me the opportunity to add in mounting holes along with the hole needed for the clock insert.



Once cut out it was easy to determine the alignment of the top piece to the back and weld into place. Then it is all about finishing. This can be painted or left as is. I cleared the back panel and left the top panel raw to enjoy the elements. Add the clock mechanism and you have a nice custom clock design to place anywhere.

That's cool Nice video. Any particular place you get your clock parts from ? Definitely going to make this for my patio that I am closing in

 

Just got the clock parts from the local hobby store.

 

Very nice project. I have been doing something similar but with a laser cutter on wood or plastic. Great project idea. I am always looking for this kind of projects.
Have you done anything with a cube yet. Cut out on the plasma then bend into a cube. We tried one with numbers on each side. Cube was made from one piece of steel and folded.

We have played around with drawers and things but trying to get "project" time on our production bender is quite difficult. We are trying to keep these projects using basic tools that most people would have without going "equipment" dependent for them to complete. Thanks for looking and we will be generating more advanced fab projects in the future.
