Air dryers ?

Curious what others are using for air dryers? I have a water issue with my compressor and need to find something that won't break the bank. Using a motor guard on the plasma side, seems to do a pretty good job. Need something for the air tool side.

 

So after much research I installed drain legs on my lines, a permenant drain on my tank and installed a Camair qc3. What a difference. Zero water/condensation problems now.

I use an Ingersoll Rand refrigerated air dryer. worth every penny. with 3stages of filtration. might be overkill but worth the piece of mind.

 

Looking yo buy /build something for my shop, is yours pricey?

 

Would you be willing to share a diagram of your installation?

The dryer was around 1500.00 directly from Ingersoll rand. And the filters were 135.00 each (3 different) two before the dryer and one after. And actually the dryer has a filter I believe. And now that i think about it the powermax 85 has a filter as well. I plumbed it all in with brazed copper pipe. You could probably get the dryer a little cheaper. But I bought direct and picked it up so I had to pay tax as well. But worth it for me to not worry about the free ups drop testing that comes with shipping.
My air is dry and clean! Like Profesional paint booth quality air. My consumables last a long time!

 

Just assisted a friend with the install and setup of his new table. Found rather quickly that the Hypertherm 65 didn't like any moisture what so ever...LOL. Showing errors 50 & 30 IIRC. Considering all that goes with the initial purchase and installation of a new setup he did not have a lot to spend on a dryer. He did what many have done, purchased a unit from Harbor Freight with total cost not including all necessary fittings/valves etc. around $400 before shipping. Now, I know many will question effectiveness/quality but in my personal experience this plasma has had no further errors since the units installation. So far a little over a month of steady use and no issues. Something to consider if cost has one in a bind.

 

I use an electromagnetic drain on the bottom of air tank this unit is made by arrow and has a time that you set for you drain from once an hour to every three hours also use a Speedair dryer system

 

Luckily, I live on a high plains desert in New Mexico. Even though our humidity is usually 15% or less, I still had a problem.I installed a "Drierite" air system and my have had no other problems. Total cost: about $200.

 

All that matters is that the air is dry and oil free... why buy a lambo if you cannot drive it 160mph through a school zone?

 

Down here in Florida we have a little humidity . Just wondering how the Devill biss units work? I have a HF refrigerated dryer (not installed yet) but want a point of use dessicant type for the TM. I plan to install just in front of the plasma machine. I am about to run the air lines in the shop and need to figure this out beforehand. Thanks!

I also run the motorguard as my pre-plasma filter, it can also double as a roll of toilet paper but works good. If you (Ocala) plan to run a dessicant as your POU I think you'll be in good shape. The QC3 I posted a pic of at the top of this thread has worked great. Since I originally posted back in May, I still have zero water issues like I used to. No regrets and very affordable compared to some others. I also think running a couple inclines and drain legs helped me out.

 

Guys, Thanks for your replies. I don't know how well the HF dryer will work here but I'm assuming mediocre at best so I'm leaning towards something larger to be on the safe side - Something the size of the Devillbiss CT30 at a minimum, but researching the cartridge, they cost $80 and are not renewable! These things are so expensive (unit and cartridges) I'm thinking of maybe making one at this point. I have some 3/8" wall steel tubing and plate for top and bottom and use some large pipe threaded caps for dessicant fill and emptying??... Anyway thinking about this.

 

So, i am running a Quincy 50 cfm re fridge drier and a sharp model 6760 desiccant filter/drier that is used for the air supply to the Hypertherm 45 only. i have no problems with moisture.

 

Ray , does that Sharpe unit use a cartridge or bulk dessicant? Thanks and Happy New Year!

 

Will, bulk with site glass, i have been running on the same desiccant for 6 months lite use.
